Tokyo City Atlas
This is the updated third edition of an atlas first published in 1998. During the past six years, the transportation network of the metropolitan area of Tokyo has changed a good deal. In the case of the subway system, lines have been extended, and some rapid-transit lines have been added, so code numbers for each station are given in our atlas for foreign travelers to identify them easily. In addition, as a result of urban development in areas such as Roppongi, Shinagawa, and Shiodome, quite a few new company buildings, stores, and hotels have appeared. These developments are also covered in this updated edition. - 21 area maps of Metropolitan Tokyo (42 pages) showing not only chome numbers but also block numbers (banchi). - 18 detailed maps of Central Tokyo (30 pages) to guide the reader even to numbered subway station entrances. - An additional 7 maps of central Yokohama and Kawasaki and access maps to 3 U.S. military bases (Yokosuka, Yokota and Zama). - Comprehensive index: More than 3,600 entries of town and station names, as well as major organizations and buildings, provide the user with easy access to all destinations.

A Handbook of Common Japanese Phrases
Words don't exist as independent units, to be inserted into grammatical slots by a speaker exercising absolute authority over their placement. Rather, they tend to come in neatly bound packages - in fixed phrases or entire sentences - ready to communicate an idea that cannot be expressed economically in any other way. For example, I wouldn't do that if I were you is basically a set expression, allowing for little change. If a student of English wanted to express the thought behind this phrase, but wasn't aware that a means of doing it already existed, he or she would be forced to resort to a great deal of circumlocution before the point was made. This is exactly why common phrases are so important: they facilitate communication. Japanese, too, is rich in common phrases perfect for any number and variety of occasions. This handbook lists some 600 of them and explains when, where, and how to use them, providing alternatives for slightly varied circumstances and revealing their underlying psychology. While all this is done in an informative, practical manner, the book is also immensely entertaining and can be profitably read by anyone interested in Japanese etiquette and psychology. All in all, A Handbook of Common Japanese Phrases is a delight for students of Japanese at every level and anyone interested in how Japanese interact among themselves. A Handbook of Common Japanese Phrases is based on Common Japanese Phrases and Common Japanese Business Phrases, previously published in the Power Japanese series.

Weird U.S.
What's weird around here? That's a question Mark Moran and Mark Sceurman have enjoyed asking for years--and their offbeat sense of curiosity led them to create the best-selling phenomenon, Weird N.J. But why should they stop at New Jersey when there's so much that's strange, odd, and utterly nutty all across the U.S.? So they've expanded their universe, taken their act on the road, and found stories of weirdness in every state in the nation. The result is a travel guide of sorts, but to the kind of places voyagers will never find on their everyday maps. Instead, it's chock full of the local legends, crazy characters, cursed roads, abandoned sites, and bizarre roadside attractions. So come along and visit such unique spots as Midgetville, explore long-empty insane asylums, and go through forgotten tunnels--but keep in mind that the maniacal Bunnyman just might be hiding out in one of them. Some of what's out there is disturbing, some of it's hilarious, but all of it is unforgettably...weird.

Roadside New Mexico
The people, geological features, and historic events that have made New Mexico what it is today are commemorated in over 350 historic markers along the state's roads. This guide, arranged geographically, beginning with the Four Corners region, is designed to fill in the gaps and answer the questions those markers provoke, offering the additional information that the interested traveller is sure to want. Geological and scenic markers for the Rio Grande, the Colorado Plateau, and such uniquely New Mexican features as the Jornada del Muerto and the Valles Caldera explicate the state's physical landscape. The presence of early human inhabitants is marked at Blackwater Draw, the Gila Cliff Dwellings, and Aztec and Salmon ruins, among other spots. Most pueblos and tribes have markers, and the early incursions of the Spanish are commemorated as well as Spanish and Mexican settlement patterns. The American occupation is marked at forts, battlefields, and survey points. Missions, trails, ghost towns, battle sites, settlements, and outlaws are all represented with markers, as are such symbols of New Mexico as the Santa Fe Opera and Smokey the Bear.
